BC’s Mining Voice Since 1901
MABC represents the producers, smelters, and development companies behind BC’s mining sector. We advocate for sound policy, share industry data, and work to keep BC competitive in a changing resource landscape.
Over a Century of Mining Advocacy
MABC is a member-based trade association representing BC’s steelmaking coal, metal, and critical mineral producers, smelters, and advanced development companies. Our role is to advocate for policies that allow responsible mining to proceed — and to make the case for why that matters to British Columbians.
BC’s mining sector supports more than 35,000 jobs and nearly 4,000 businesses across the province, including many Indigenous-affiliated suppliers and contractors. That reach shapes communities far beyond the mine gate.

1901
Founded by the BC Legislature
MABC was established at the turn of the century to give BC’s growing mining industry a formal voice. From the start, the association’s purpose was practical: represent the industry’s interests, and make the case for mining as a driver of provincial prosperity.
Mid-20th Century
Shaping Policy Through Growth
As BC’s mining sector expanded, so did MABC’s role in shaping how it was regulated. The association became a consistent voice in provincial resource policy during a period of major mine development across the Interior and North.
1990s–2000s
Navigating a More Complex Landscape
Environmental standards tightened, Indigenous consultation requirements grew, and global commodity markets shifted. MABC adapted — advocating for regulations that were workable, and helping members meet rising expectations around safety and stewardship.
Today
Critical Minerals, National Interest
BC’s critical minerals are now central to Canada’s economic and security agenda. MABC represents the companies positioned to supply them — and advocates for the regulatory conditions that make development viable.
